The Acadians of Saint-Jacques l'Achigan, Québec

In September 1766, a royal proclamation addressed to all seigneurs, with regard to the Acadian refugees, recommended the following*:

  • care should be given the Acadians
  • allow them to settle on lands not yet in use in their seigneuries
  • allow them the best possible conditions
  • give them necessary provisions for the period of one month. *
