ST. JOSEPH'S, PHILADELPHIA MARRIAGES - 1799-1808

These records were transcribed by Barbara Brady O'Keefe of Miami, Florida in 1987. The Ancestral Home is very grateful for her permission to post these important records so that Acadian researchers might have access to them.

Hi Lucie!

You can use my list on your site! I'd be honored. I did these years ago, and am so pleased that so many are gaining some benefit from them. All of my compilations were a labor of love.

Good luck with your endeavors!!!

Best wishes,
Barbara "Bobbi" O'Keefe

FATHER FARMER’S MARRIAGE REGISTERS - 1758-1786
St. Joseph's Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Introduction by Jean Sansenbaugher Morris

Barbara Brady O’Keefe - Miami, Florida - March, 1983

Dedicated to my mother, E. Marjorie Brady, who has dedicated, to me, her life.

INTRODUCTION

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church was organized in 1732 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (now City of Philadelphia). The first mass in Philadelphia is said to have been celebrated in 1708.

Catholics were present around Philadelphia (English, Irish and German) by 1720-30 in large enough numbers to cause Father Joseph Greaton, a Jesuit, to come from Maryland to found the church in 1732. The church was located at William’s Alley below Fourth, and Father Greaton first served there.

The records for St. Joseph’s which are abstracted in this work were found in the Journals of the American Catholic Historical Society, Vols. 1-40+ which are held in most Dioceasan Headquarters in the United States.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church was organized in 1732 in Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania (now city of Philadelphia.) The first mass in Philadelphia is said to have been celebrated in 1708.

Catholics were present around Philadelphia (English, Irish and German) by 1720-30 in large enough numbers to cause Father Joseph Greaton, a Jesuit, to come from Maryland to found the church in 1732. The church was located at Willing's Alley below Fourth, and Father Greaton first served there.

The records for St. Joseph's which are abbstracted in this work were found in the Journals of the American Catholic Historical Society, Vols 1-40+ which are held in most Diocesan Headquarters in the United States.
